249 years— thats how long its been since the colonies declared independence from britain and charted a path that would result in the manifestation of perhaps the most powerful and consequential machine in human history.

in its brief history, america has been far from perfect— in fact, more often than not, america falls short of its ideals. the promise of america though, what it can be for you and what it has been already for me, that’s what makes it extraordinary. in what other nation on earth have so many people of such diverse life experience and background done so well for themselves? truly, there has never been and perhaps never again will be a place like america.

that is why, even with all that is going on in this country, i believe we will endure. yes, our institutions need to be restructured, our way of governance reworked, and the democratic system as a whole rethought.
