opportunities to grow
i had someone call me to offer me a job. it wasn’t glorious but it was a software engineering job. i would get a lot more freedom, there probably wouldn’t be as much scrutiny, and i would decide how to build the platform from scratch.
there’s just not a lot of area for growth. i wouldn’t really have upward mobility and getting to another company would be even more difficult.
they want to hire 2 - 3 other developers and have them build the new system the company wants from scratch. i wonder…
what if i offer to build the new system to feature parity with the current system. thats not risk for them right, they dont pay me until the new system is up to date, and i get some consulting experience. i could also charge some serious cash to them for that work.
i have an in. it would just be a lot of work over the weekend. but it could be what gets me started down the path to my own consulting firm.
ugh, i would really have to think about it. it would just take so much of my time up.
i would have to dedicate all my weekends to it and even all my time after work to reach the deadline in a reasonable fashion.
it would be hard work… but for the right price it could be worth it.
